Howdy! I'm Julien.
I'm a digital & media strategist from the Lone Star State, with experience in media relations, copywriting and editing, effective digital communication strategies, email campaigns, and more. My background in non-profit and political/advocacy communications, plus my own lived experiences, help me approach my work with equity, mindfulness, and empathy.

I'm a first-generation American, and I've seen first-hand how the current systems in place hurt Black & brown communities — my mamá (what I called my abuela), who was an immigrant from El Salvador, worked long hours as a seamstress to provide everything she can for the two of us. I'm grateful that I never had to worry about not having food at the table or clothes to wear at school, but I didn't realize the sacrifices she had to make until I was well into my early 20's. It wasn't until I took a college course on The Innocence Project that I really understood just how unjust our current systems are — these two life experiences are what brought me to this line of work because I believe in a world that is safe and equitable for all.

Because it took a long time for me to live in my full truth, I'm dedicated to lifting up other queer/trans voices while bringing into the light of the unique issues the LGBTQ community faces every day. This led me to co-found Veer Queer, which has been featured in outlets such as OutSmart Magazine, Houston Press, and Autostraddle. Additionally, I was nominated for the historic Non-Binary Grand Marshal category for Houston Pride 2019, and I currently serve on the board of Transgender Education Network of Texas, an organization dedicated to furthering gender diverse equality in Texas.

I feel incredibly lucky to be from such a culturally diverse city like Houston. I live with my spouse and our three fur babies, Levi (dog), Rosalind (cat) and Honey (cat). I look forward to connecting with you!
